Instagram Story Viewer by Link

If you have a link to an Instagram profile, take the username from it (the part after instagram.com/) and enter it in InstaSPY. The account's public stories and highlights load without any login.

Works with public accounts only. No Instagram login required.

Quick answer

To view Instagram stories by link, paste the profile or story link into the search box above. InstaSPY reads the username from the link and loads that public account's current stories and highlights in your browser, with no Instagram login and no app.

Why view Instagram stories by link

Most people do not type Instagram usernames from memory. They receive a link: in a group chat, an email newsletter, a website footer, a QR code on a menu or a bio link on another platform. On a phone, tapping that link usually tries to open the Instagram app, and if you are not logged in, you hit a sign-up wall before you see any stories.

A story viewer that accepts links removes that friction. You copy the link, paste it, and see the public stories straight away. It is the fastest route from "someone sent me this" to actually seeing the content, and it works whether or not you have an Instagram account.

Which Instagram links work

  • Profile links – instagram.com/username. The most common link type, shared from profiles and bios.
  • Links with tracking text – instagram.com/username?igsh=… The part after the question mark is ignored; only the username matters.
  • Story links – instagram.com/stories/username/123… The username right after /stories/ is used to load all current stories from that account.
  • Short or mobile links – If a link redirects to a profile, open it once in your browser, copy the final address and paste that.

Post and reel links (instagram.com/p/… or /reel/…) do not contain the username. Open the link, note the account name shown on the post, and search that username instead.

How to view stories from an Instagram link, step by step

  1. Copy the link – Long-press it in your chat or email app and choose Copy, or copy it from the browser address bar.
  2. Paste it into the search box – Use the box at the top of this page. You can paste the whole link; there is no need to clean it up.
  3. Press search – InstaSPY extracts the username and loads the public profile within a few seconds.
  4. Watch the stories – Open the Stories tab for anything posted in the last 24 hours, or Highlights for saved stories.
  5. Explore the rest of the profile – Switch tabs to see recent posts and public reels from the same account.

Finding the username inside a link yourself

Every Instagram profile link has the same structure: the domain instagram.com, a slash, then the username. Anything after a question mark is tracking information that Instagram adds when a link is shared from the app, and it can be ignored. For example, instagram.com/nasa?igsh=abc123 belongs to the account nasa.

Story links follow a slightly different pattern: instagram.com/stories/username/ followed by a long number that identifies one particular story. That story may already have expired, but the username is still valid, so searching it shows whatever the account currently has live.

Common problems and how to fix them

  • The link opens the Instagram app instead of copying: long-press and choose Copy link rather than tapping it.
  • The search shows a different account: check that the link was not cut off and that no characters were added before the username.
  • No stories appear: the account has not posted in the last 24 hours. Check Highlights instead.
  • The account shows as private: stories from private accounts cannot be viewed by anyone who is not an approved follower.

What you can and can't see from a link

A link only tells InstaSPY which account to load. What you see depends on whether that account is public.

What you can see

  • Current public stories from the linked account
  • Public highlights, posts and reels
  • Profile picture, name and bio

What you can't see

  • A specific story that has already expired
  • Anything from a private account
  • Close friends stories or direct messages

A link to an expired story still leads to the account, so you can see whatever it has posted since.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste a full Instagram link into InstaSPY?

Yes. Paste the whole profile or story link and InstaSPY extracts the username automatically.

Does it work with links shared from the Instagram app?

Yes. Tracking text such as ?igsh= at the end of the link is ignored.

Can I open a single expired story from a link?

No. Expired stories are removed by Instagram unless they were saved as a highlight. You will see the account's current stories and highlights instead.

Do I need an Instagram account to view stories by link?

No. InstaSPY works without an Instagram account or login.

Can I use a post or reel link?

Post and reel links do not include the username. Open the post, note the account name and search that username.
