Start with the story viewer if you are not sure which tool you need. It opens the full public profile, and from there you can switch between stories, highlights, reels and posts without searching again. Tracking works by checking a public account regularly and comparing what it sees with the previous check. When a tracked account follows someone new or posts a new story, the change is recorded and, if you turn on alerts, you are notified in the app or by email. Tracking only works on public accounts and is part of paid plans.

Use tracking for things that would otherwise mean checking every day by hand: a competitor's new partnerships, a creator's recent collaborations, or when a brand you follow posts a story about a sale.

Free Instagram tools that never ask for your password

Instagram content from private accounts, deleted stories and lists of who viewed a story are not public, and no tool here pretends otherwise. Knowing the limits up front saves you time and keeps your expectations realistic.

Free searches let you try any tool before deciding whether you need more. If you only check an account occasionally, the free searches may be all you ever use.
